Wayfair is the destination for all things home, and a place that helps everyone create a sense of home anywhere. But how did we get here?
In the early 2000s, having a “good selection” could mean placing three or four options side-by-side on store shelves. But old friends Niraj Shah and Steve Conine saw an opportunity to offer more choices for everyone. Bringing online shopping home meant they didn’t have to worry about how many couches they could fit in the store, and for the first time, everyday shoppers had the power of choice.
Niraj and Steve joined in to see what people were searching for and to create goals for those products. Soon they launched CSN Stores, a collection of more than 200 sites with everything from bar stools to bedroom furniture and birdhouses.
In 2011, we brought everything under one roof and created wayfair.com: a single site where people can find millions of products for every corner of their home.
Why is it called Wayfair? The truth is, it’s just two words that sound good together. But over time, our guests have built the brand with us and given our windmill logo more purpose and meaning than we ever thought possible. It was the best definition we could ask for.
Over the next few years, we expanded into Canada, the UK and Germany while building a network of logistics and infrastructure that made shipping big-ticket items faster and easier. Whether they lived in rural Nebraska or central London, for the first time ever, shoppers could easily find and get the home furnishings they wanted.
All of this history has brought us to where we are today: Wayfair is driven by a world-class team that always keeps the future in mind – constantly striving to help everyone, everywhere, create spaces that work for them.
